What is the cost of a prosthesis, and do you accept insurance?

The cost of a prosthesis can vary widely depending on the type, materials used, and level of technology involved. On average, a prosthetic limb can range from $5,000 to $50,000. Basic prosthetic legs start around $5,000, while more advanced, microprocessor-controlled legs can cost $30,000 to $50,000 or higher. Similarly, prosthetic arms can range from $5,000 for a purely cosmetic arm to $20,000-$100,000 for an advanced myoelectric arm.

At Inspire Prosthetics, we accept most major insurance plans. As part of our process, we will check your insurance benefits and explain any costs to you, if any. Insurance coverage for prosthetics can vary, but typically, insurance covers a portion of the cost of the device itself, as well as necessary fittings and adjustments.

Do you offer financing options for prostheses or braces?

We offer a variety of financing options to help make these essential devices more accessible. How long will the prosthesis last?

The lifespan of a prosthesis can vary depending on several factors, including the type of prosthesis, the materials used, the user's activity level, and how well the prosthesis is maintained. Generally, prostheses are designed to last between 3 to 5 years. However, some prostheses, especially those used for high-impact activities, may have a shorter lifespan.

Regular follow-up appointments and proper care can help extend the life of a prosthesis. It's also common for users to need adjustments or replacements due to changes in their residual limb or wear and tear over time. If you experience any discomfort or pain, please contact us immediately so we can schedule an appointment if necessary. Regular follow-ups should occur at least every 3-6 months to ensure the prosthesis continues to function properly. Additionally, you will require replacement supplies such as liners, socks, or sleeves over time.

How long should I wear my prosthesis at first?

When you first receive your prosthesis, it's important to gradually increase your wearing time to allow your residual limb to adjust to the new device. Start by wearing your prosthesis for 1-2 hours a day. After each wearing period, check your skin for any signs of redness or irritation. If any areas of irritation do not disappear within 20 minutes, reduce your wearing time and schedule an appointment with your prosthetist.
Incrementally increase your wear time by 30 minutes to 1 hour each week, paying close attention to how your body responds during this period. Regular follow-up appointments should occur at least every 3-6 months to ensure the prosthesis continues to function properly.

Additionally, you will require replacement supplies such as liners, socks, or sleeves over time. If you experience any discomfort or pain, please contact us immediately so we can schedule an appointment if necessary.
